Advanced Certified Medication Aide (ACMA)

The Advanced Certified Medication Aide (ACMA) – Diabetes Care & Insulin Administration Program at CNA Training Academy is designed for Certified Medication Aides who want to expand their scope of knowledge and competency in diabetes management and insulin administration under licensed nurse supervision.

This advanced program prepares students to safely assist with blood glucose monitoring, insulin administration, and diabetes-related care in long-term care and assisted living settings while maintaining strict compliance with state regulations and facility policies.

Our program is instructor-led and provides a comprehensive learning experience through:

  • Classroom instruction
  • Hands-on Clinical experience in skills lab practice

Upon successful completion, students are eligible to sit for the Oklahoma State Nurse Aide Competency Exam to become a certified CNA.

Program Overview

The ACMA – Diabetes Care & Insulin Administration course provides advanced, instructor-led training focused on:

  • Diabetes disease process and management

  • Safe insulin preparation and administration

  • Blood glucose monitoring and documentation

  • Recognition and response to hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia

  • Infection control and resident safety

  • Legal, ethical, and scope-of-practice considerations

Training includes classroom instruction, hands-on skills lab practice, and competency-based evaluation.

Upon successful completion, students are eligible to sit for the ACMA – Insulin State Competency Examination, as applicable under Oklahoma regulations and employer policy.

  • Understanding Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes

  • Blood glucose testing procedures and quality control

  • Insulin types, onset, peak, and duration

  • Preparing and administering insulin injections

  • Site selection and rotation

  • Recognizing signs and symptoms of hypo- and hyperglycemia

  • Emergency response and reporting

  • Accurate documentation and communication with licensed nurses

  • Resident rights, safety, and infection control

Admission Requirements

Applicants must meet the following requirements prior to enrollment:

  • Current Oklahoma Certified Medication Aide (CMA) certification
  • Current Oklahoma Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) certification
  • Criminal background check
  • Current TB screening
  • American Heart Association BLS/CPR certification
  • Compliance with all clinical and training prerequisites

All requirements must be completed before skills validation and testing.

Admission Requirements

Before entering clinicals, all students must complete the following:

  • Criminal Background Check
  • BLS/CPR Certification from the American Heart Association
  • TB Screening Test (must be current)

Note: BLS/CPR certification must be completed before attending clinicals.
