The Advanced Certified Medication Aide (ACMA) – Nasogastric, Gastrostomy, and Respiratory Program at CNA Training Academy is designed for Certified Medication Aides seeking advanced training in enteral feeding support and respiratory care under the supervision of a licensed nurse.
This specialized program prepares students to safely assist with medication administration via feeding tubes, provide respiratory support care, and perform related documentation while maintaining strict compliance with state regulations, facility policies, and resident safety standards.
This advanced ACMA program provides instructor-led training focused on safe, competency-based care for residents requiring enteral nutrition and respiratory support. Training emphasizes proper technique, infection control, observation, documentation, and communication with licensed nursing staff.
Upon successful completion, students may be eligible to sit for the ACMA Advanced Skills State Competency Examination, as applicable under Oklahoma regulations and employer policy.

This 16-clock-hour ACMA Nasogastric, Gastrostomy, and Respiratory Program is designed to accommodate your schedule with flexible training formats:

Students will gain advanced knowledge and hands-on competency in:
Understanding nasogastric (NG) and gastrostomy (G-tube) feeding tubes
Assisting with medication administration via feeding tubes
Tube placement awareness and safety checks (as permitted)
Preventing complications and recognizing signs of intolerance
Infection control and resident safety
Oxygen therapy basics and safety
Monitoring respiratory status and reporting changes
Assisting with respiratory equipment per facility policy
Infection control in respiratory care
Emergency response and escalation procedures
Documentation and reporting requirements
Communication with licensed nurses
Resident rights and ethical considerations
Scope of practice and legal responsibilities
Training is instructor-led and includes:
Classroom instruction
Hands-on skills lab practice
Competency demonstrations
Scenario-based learning
All skills are taught in a controlled skills lab environment to ensure safety, accuracy, and confidence.
Applicants must meet the following requirements prior to enrollment:
Current Oklahoma Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) and Certified Medication Aide (CMA) certification
Criminal background check
Current TB screening
American Heart Association BLS/CPR certification
Compliance with all clinical and training prerequisites
All requirements must be completed before skills validation and testing.
